Why should I do this? Here's a few reasons...

How to help

It won't have escaped your attention, that outside the affluent areas of London, there's a lot of poverty, deprivation and underpriviledge. Most of it right under your nose.

How you can make a difference

1. You can give a few coins to the next homeless person who asks.
2. You can help your next door neighbour or friend when they need it.
3. You can volunteer at the local charity shop
4. You can sit on a committee and organise a voluntary group/fundraising
5. You can use your professional skills to make a REAL impact to a community or voluntary group at minimum inconvenience to yourself.

Why it works

Time is money and your most valuable asset is your time and your expertise. Giving a few hours of your time can make a huge difference to a voluntary or community group. Its expertise they probably can't afford to pay for but which makes the difference between projects happening and not happening (e.g. an IT access centre starting up and staying open, a community group using email to keep in touch with each other, someone learning how to use a word processor and getting a job).

If you want specific examples take a look at the Opportunities page for the type of projects we have available.

You can:

1. Support voluntary and community organisations through the use of IT and marketing, enabling them to do their jobs better to help people.
2. Support wired-up or online communities - communities of interest or locality to enable people to access and transmit local or special interest information on the internet.
3. Provide advice to community groups on marketing and PR and help them raise funds, work more effectively, develop better partnerships and make the difference to people in need.
4. Show a charity how to use databases effectively so they waste less time on admin and spend more time supporting the people they're there to help.
5. Build a website for a community group so it can raise awareness on the internet and build support.

What's a few hours of your time?
You can make the difference. Why not give it a try?

If you would like an informal discussion via email then please get in touch with us and we'll try and help you to make that difference.

Simon, a volunteer, said: "Southern-Impact offers a great opportunity to meet new people, generate better job opportunities and improve your CV while really making a difference to the people around you."

Supported and funded by Omega Alpha Limited and the preponderate network, Southern-Impact offers IT and marketing professionals benefits including networking opportunities, skills-building and having fun in exchange for a few hours (or less) unpaid IT work with a local community or voluntary group in London.
